The Jequetepeque district is located in the Pacasmayo Province in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . It has an area of 50.98 km². The 2017 census counted 4136 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2881, in 2007 it was 3457. The district was founded on June 21, 1825. The administrative seat is the 20 m high town of Jequetepeque of the same name . There is also the small town of Huascar in the district. Irrigated agriculture is practiced along the course of the river. In the south of the district there is desert vegetation. South of the mouth of the Río Jequetepeque is the archaeological site of Huaca Dos Cabezas from the Moche culture (abandoned in 650 AD).
Geographical location
The Jequetepeque district is located on the Pacific coast south of the mouth of the Jequetepeque Río . The district has a 6.5 km stretch of coastline. The Río Jequetepeque forms the northern boundary of the district. The Jequetepeque district borders on the Guadalupe district in the north, the San José district in the east, and the Pacasmayo district in the southeast and south .
