The Samegua district is located in the province of Mariscal Nieto of Moquegua region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on November 8, 1894. It has an area of ​​62.55 km². At the 2017 census, there were 8,480 residents in the district. In 1993, the population was 6,321, in 2007 6515th The district administration is in the 1558  m high altitude town Samegua with 7,950 inhabitants (2017). Samegua is located on the northeastern outskirts of the provincial and regional capital Moquegua . The distance from Moquegua city center is 5 km.

Geographical location

The Samegua district is located in the coastal highlands immediately northeast of the city of Moquegua. The Río Tumilaca, a tributary of the Río Moquegua , flows through the district in a south-westerly direction. Irrigated agriculture is practiced along the course of the river. The Samegua district borders the Torata district in the north and the Moquegua district in the south .
