The Yurimaguas district is located in the Alto Amazonas province in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . It was founded on February 7, 1866. The district has an area of 2847 km². The 2017 census counted 92,882 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 50,369, in 2007 63,345. The administrative center is the provincial capital of Yurimagua, at an altitude of 182 m , with 68,892 inhabitants (as of 2017). Yurimaguas is located on the left bank of the Río Huallaga , 215 km above its confluence with the Río Marañón . In the south of the district, oil palms are grown on a large scale .
Geographical location
The district of Yurimaguas is located east of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera on the western edge of the Peruvian Amazon in the central south of the Alto Amazonas province. The Río Huallaga crosses the eastern part of the district in a predominantly northern direction. Its tributaries Río Shanusi and Río Paranapura drain the western part of the district.
The district of Yurimaguas borders in the west with the district Balsapuerto , in the north with the district Jeberos , in the northeast with the district Santa Cruz , in the east with the district Teniente César López Rojas and in the south with the districts Barranquita and Caynarachi (both in the province of Lamas ).
