The Jeberos district is located in the Alto Amazonas province in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. The district name is derived from Jivaro , an indigenous people group and language in the area.
The district has an area of 4667 km². The 2017 census counted 4495 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3244, in 2007 it was 4198. The administrative seat is the 165 m high town Jeberos with 2549 inhabitants (as of 2017). Jeberos is located 70 km north-northwest of the provincial capital of Yurimagua .
Geographical location
The Jeberos district is located in the Peruvian Amazon region in the central west of the Alto Amazonas province. It extends over the catchment area of the Río Aipena, which flows into the Río Huallaga on the left , immediately above its mouth into the Río Marañón .
The Jeberos district borders in the west on the district Cahuapanas ( province Datem del Marañón ), in the north on the district Barranca (province Datem del Marañón), in the extreme northeast on the district Pastaza (province Datem del Marañón), in the east on the district Lagunas , to the southeast to the Santa Cruz district , to the south to the Yurimaguas district and to the southwest to the Balsapuerto district .
