The Teniente César López Rojas district is located in the Alto Amazonas province in the Loreto region in northeast Peru . The district was established on September 8, 1964. It has an area of 1494 km². The 2017 census counted 6,060 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4874, in 2007 it was 5892. The administrative seat is the 175 m high village Shucushuyacu with 1874 inhabitants located on the right bank of the Río Huallaga (as of 2017). Shucushuyacu is located 30 km southeast of the provincial capital of Yurimagua .
Geographical location
The Teniente César López Rojas district is located in the Peruvian Amazon region in the southeast of the Alto Amazonas province. The Río Huallaga crosses the southwest of the district. Its tributary Río Cuiparillo flows through the north of the district.
The Teniente César López Rojas district is bordered to the west and northwest on the district Yurimaguas , in the far northeast of the district of Santa Cruz , in the east on the district Puinahua ( province Requena ) and on the south by the districts Papa Playa , El Porvenir (both in the province San Martín ) and Barranquita ( Province of Lamas ).
