history

Former mansion in Doberschütz

The place was first mentioned in 1350 as the seat of Johannes de Doberswicz , but has been inhabited for much longer. The remains of an old moated castle are in the area of the former estate. Relics from the Bronze Age have been found in the area.

The manor based in Doberschütz also held the manorial rule. After 1945 it was expropriated; the manor temporarily served as a school.

After the administrative reform of 1952, Doberschütz belonged to the Kamenz district for five years before it was reintegrated into the Bautzen district. Until January 2, 1974 it was an independent rural community with the district of Caßlau (since 1936). Then it was incorporated into Neschwitz.

Place name

The place name is interpreted as a derivation from the personal name Dobroš and means something like "village of the people of Dobroš". The personal name is derived from dobry for "good".
