Dominique Schaak (born September 20, 1990 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German racing driver and instructor .

Life

Dominique Schaak was born in Halle / Saale . For professional reasons, the family moved from Halle to the Magdeburg Börde . There Dominique Schaak attended secondary school in Eilsleben and lived in Ummendorf . At the age of eight, his father, Andreas Schaak, took him to a kart track for the first time , and from 2000 he competed in the first kart races. In addition to active racing, he received his secondary school certificate from the secondary school in Eilsleben in 2007. From 2007 to 2011, he successfully completed an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic in addition to motorsport. In 2014 he moved to the Hohe Börde and finally in 2019 to Magdeburg , the capital of Saxony-Anhalt.

Career

Schaak began his career in 1999 at the age of eight in karting in Halle / Lettin. He achieved several victories and podium places in various kart racing series. In 2005 he switched to formula racing for the first time . After another year in karting, he successfully participated in a touring car talent scouting in 2007. As a result, he started in the ADAC Logan Cup in 2008 and 2009 and gained his first touring car experience. For the 2010 season, Schaak switched to the successor series of the ADAC Chevrolet Cup . There he celebrated his first podium places in automobile sport and came in 8th overall. In 2011 he stayed in the ADAC Chevrolet Cup and reached 6th place in the overall standings. In 2012, the then 21-year-old competed in the ADAC Chevrolet Cup and always ended up in the top 4. Schaak also tested a Renault Clio RS3 Cup vehicle.

In 2013 and 2014, Schaak concentrated on karting again. There he won the title in the North German Kart Trophy. In addition, Schaak was the only German driver to contest the Alpen Kart Cup in Austria and finished in 3rd place overall.

After the successful years, Schaak managed to start in the ADAC Procar as part of the ADAC GT Masters supporting program in 2015 thanks to sponsors . With his Ford Fiesta ST Cup vehicle, he started in Division 2 of the 1600 naturally aspirated engines. Already in the opening race he reached 3rd place in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben . In 2015, Schaak achieved eight places among the top three in 16 races. He was also the first driver to receive the Carlo Community Fan Award twice - the first time at the Eurospeedway Lausitzring , the second time at the Circuit Zolder (Belgium).

On the way back from the race in Zandvoort in the Netherlands , Schaak was involved in a serious traffic accident. Nevertheless, he started just ten days later in the final in Spa Francorchamps (Belgium). Schaak was therefore the best newcomer to the series in 2015 at the DTC ADAC Procar and ended up in 3rd place overall. Schaak was then invited to the ADAC GT Masters Drivers Test on a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 .

In 2016, Schaak started another season in the DTC Series (German Touring Car Cup), the former ADAC Procar. Schaak fought for the title in the production class on a Mini Challenge JCW Cup vehicle. He won in Zandvoort in the Netherlands and for the first time at his home race in Oschersleben . In addition, he was able to conquer three other podium places. Due to technical defects in his car at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, Schaak lost the title chance and finished the season in 4th place overall.

Schaak entered the traditional Renault Sport brand cup in 2017. In the Renault Clio Cup Central Europe, he started at European level for the first time. In the Ahrens Racing Team he drove a Renault Clio Cup vehicle. In his last appearance in the Renault Clio Cup Central Europe for the time being, he was able to move up from position 24 to position 14 on the Zandvoort dune circuit. Schaak also tested a Porsche Cayman GT4 in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben and also moderated several races of the Renault Clio Cup Central Europe as co- commentator .

2018 was followed by a highlight year in Schaak's career. He started in the 12h race in Imola and won together with Allied Racing in the GT4 class. Schaak also made a guest appearance in front of his home crowd in the Porsche Super Sports Cup and finished the races in 5th and 3rd place.

Schaak started for HTF Motorsport in the National Endurance Series in 2019 and thus got back into touring car racing . On a Seat Leon Cupra TCR, Schaak fought together with HTF Motorsport from Erfurt for the crown in the DMV NES500 endurance championship. In the end, the Magdeburg Schaak secured the runner-up in the NES500.
