The Dommelbach in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is a 4.9 km long, orographically right and southeastern tributary of the Itter in the Upland , the northeast foothills of the Rothaargebirge .

course

The Dommelbach rises in the north-western part of Hesse in the Rothaar Mountains. Its source is located between Ottlar (part of the Diemelsee municipality ) in the east and somewhat distant Rattlar (to Willingen ) in the southwest. It lies between the mountain Dommel ( 738  m ) and its east- south- east neighboring elevation Brenschelt ( 637.3  m ) at about 602  m above sea level. NHN . The Dommelhof is located near the source .

The Dommelbach runs entirely in the Diemelsee Nature Park , mostly in wooded, but sometimes also in an agricultural landscape. It initially flows to the southwest and bends to the northwest at the Dommelmühle ( 505.6  m ). There the Wiedbach flows in from the south from the direction of Rattlar , which is significantly longer than the Dommelbach up to this point. Shortly afterwards , the stream of In der Hege flows from the Schetenkopf (approx.  650  m ) , from where the Dommelbach turns north. Then the Rutenbecke flows in from the east . From its source to this confluence, the brook flows around the Dommel mountain in an approximately V-shape.

Finally , the Dommelbach flows about 1.1 km south of the village church of Bontkirchen, located in neighboring North Rhine-Westphalia , shortly after crossing the state road  3393 (Bontkirchen – Willingen) at an altitude of about 414  m into the Diemel tributary, which comes from the south and flows on the state border Itter .

Catchment area and tributaries

The catchment area of the Dommelbach is 9.423 km². Its tributaries include the Wiedbach (3.8 km) coming from Rattlar , the In der Hege creek (700 m) and the Rutenbecke (1.3 km).
