Don Collier
Donald Mounger Collier (born October 17, 1928 in Santa Monica , California , † September 13, 2021 in Harrodsburg , Kentucky ) was an American actor .
Life
Collier joined the United States Navy after high school and served during World War II . Then he went to the US Merchant Navy . During his first sea voyage, he was called back home because his only sister was seriously ill and eventually passed away. He then gave the sailors career and took using an American football - scholarship to study at the Hardin-Simmons University in Texas on. After a year he moved to Brigham Young University in Utah .
From the late 1950s, his acting career began, in which he was mainly seen in westerns . He made his acting debut in a guest role in the western series The Deputy starring Henry Fonda . After other smaller roles, including in Bonanza , he received the lead role of Deputy Marshal Will Foreman in 1960 in the series Outlaws , which he played in two seasons in a total of 49 episodes. After the series ended, he first played a few guest roles in series such as The People of Shiloh Ranch and Smoking Colts . Between mid and late 1960s, he also appeared in several successful films such as Elvis Presley -Vehikel South Sea paradise and mortal enemies with Robert Mitchum and Dean Martin . During this time he also appeared in three John Wayne wests, El Dorado , The Mighty and The Undefeated .
He gained notoriety in the US television audience as Ranch - foreman Sam Butler in the Western series High Chaparral , which he represented from 1967 to 1971 in 62 episodes. Most of the rest of the 1970s, he made guest appearances on series such as The Waltons and Our Little Farm . In 1978 he played alongside James Arness and Bruce Boxleitner in the western miniseries Through Hell to the West and was seen the following year as Frank Dalton in the television film The Last Coup of the Dalton Gang . In the 1980s he played the role of Admiral Russ Carton in the miniseries The Firestorm and Firestorm and Ashes . Between 1989 and 1992 he played the recurring supporting role of shopkeeper William Tompkins in the series The Young Riders - 7 for Justice , in which Stephen Baldwin played the historical character of William Frederick Cody . He then starred alongside Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer in Tombstone and in several television films.
Collier was married and had six children. He died of lung cancer in September 2021 at the age of 92 .
