Donato Negro (born January 3, 1948 in San Cesario di Lecce , Province of Lecce , Italy ) is Archbishop of Otranto .

Life

Donato Negro was ordained a priest on July 15, 1972 . The doctor of theology and teacher led from 1976 to 1983 the seminary of the Archdiocese of Lecce , to then Vicar General to be the diocese, which he remained until 1989th On August 14, 1991 Negro became rector of the Pontifical Regional Seminary of Puglia , where he had studied before his ordination.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Molfetta - Ruvo - Giovinazzo - Terlizzi on December 22, 1993 . The Archbishop of Lecce , Cosmo Francesco Ruppi , consecrated him bishop on February 10 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Francesco Minerva and Michele Mincuzzi , both emeritus Archbishops of Lecce . He was appointed Archbishop of Otranto on April 29, 2000 and was introduced to office on June 24 of the same year. Negro is President of the Regional Bishops 'Conference of Apulia and is a member of the Permanent Council of the Italian Bishops' Conference .
