Plot and characters

The rare, valuable and powerful crystal coconut has Donkey Kong as a future ruler of Congo Bongo chosen. Until the time of his official appointment as ruler, he has the honorable task of protecting the crystal coconut, because because of its power, thieves keep trying to steal it. Usually this is King Kroko , a malicious but intelligent crocodile who wants to use the power of the coconut to become ruler of Congo Bongo himself . Attempts to get hold of the coconut are always thwarted by Donkey Kong . In addition, King Kroko has to fight with the lack of intellect of his troops, which makes the attacks against Donkey Kong and his friends even more difficult.

production

Donkey Kong's Adventure or La Planète de Donkey Kong (original title) was produced and published by Nelvana Limited and the French television channel France 2 . The idea for the series came from Jacques Goldstein and Philippe Percebois. The title music and soundtrack were produced by Pure West. In Germany, Donkey Kong's adventures were broadcast on the TV channels Super RTL and Das Vierte .

The series is based on the Donkey Kong series published by Rare and Nintendo , specifically Donkey Kong Country , which was published in 1994 for the Super Nintendo under the direction of Tim Stamper and Gregg Mayles . The appearance of the characters in the series was largely modeled on that of the SNES game. Only Dixie Kong's clothes have been designed in a different color and the overall appearance of Candy Kong has been slightly changed. In addition, Cranky Kong and King K. Rool were renamed Bubbels and King Kroko, respectively. In other language versions of the series, however, the two have their usual name.

After the success of the French and American seasons, La Planète de Donkey Kong (France) and Donkey Kong Country (USA) were gradually translated into various languages and used in many countries, such as France , Canada , USA , Great Britain , Finland , Sweden , Japan , Italy , Germany , Spain , Australia , Brazil , Portugal or Spain.

DVD release

The series is also available on DVD in certain languages . Three DVDs were initially released in German, each containing two episodes of the series.

On August 18, 2017, the entire second season with the 14 German-dubbed episodes was released on DVD for the first time.

Awards

Trivia

  • Donkey Kong's battle cry can be seen as a kind of running gag . This reads: "BANANA HAMMA!" .
  • In the series, many monologues or dialogues are dealt with in song form. In the German version of the series, however, the songs are usually not sung by the original speakers.
  • In the US, an advertisement for Donkey Kong Country for the Game Boy Color appeared in the style of Donkey Kong's adventures.
