Building history

The first known mention of a church in Saaringen comes from the year 1391. It was a branch church of the village church Klein Kreutz . In 1786 a fire broke out that destroyed the church. As a result, a new church was built from 1787 to 1790 in the Baroque style.

At the end of the 20th century, a support association was founded , dedicated to the renovation of the now very dilapidated church. The local Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is a member of the association . An extensive renovation took place in the following years . Initially, the church became the property of the friends' association. Funding came from the German Foundation for Monument Protection , among others .

Exterior construction

The sound openings of the bell cage, like all church windows, are segment-arched. The church tower roof is a tent roof that is covered with beaver tails . The top is equipped with a tower ball , a weather vane and a six-pointed star .

The outside of the ship is kept simple. The elements that structure the facade are vertical pilaster strips , around the windows fascias and an eaves cornice that ends in gable ears on both sides on the west side . Furthermore, there are six inclined pillars supporting laterally , two each on the north, west and south sides. The eastern choir is polygonal . The roof, like that of the tower, is covered with red beaver tails. Some skylights are incorporated.
