Dorin Dumitru Velicu (born November 29, 1986 in Hunedoara ) is a Romanian skeleton athlete .

Dorin Velicu lives in Hunedoara. He started playing skeleton in 2006 and has been a member of the Romanian national team ever since. He competed in his first international race at the start of the 2006/07 season in the European Skeleton Cup , where he finished 42nd in 2008 in Igls and 2009 in Königssee, he took part in the Junior World Championships and came in 23rd and 14th. It lasted until December 2010 that he achieved a first single-digit result in the European Cup in a race in Igls with seventh place. The Romanian competed in the Intercontinental Cup for the first time in Winterberg a month earlier and finished sixth there. Velicu finished 31st at the Skeleton World Championship in 2011 in Königssee . In 2011/12, Velicu started again in the European and Intercontinental Cup and finished third at the European Cup in Winterberg for the first time on the podium. At the end of the season, he made his World Cup debut in Calgary and finished 25th.

In the 2012/13 season, Velicu competed in individual races in the European , Intercontinental and World Cup and was able to achieve eighth and ninth place in the Intercontinental Cup as the best results. At the Skeleton World Championship in 2013 , he finished 30th. In the winter of 2013/14 he competed in four European Cup and all eight Intercontinental Cup races, but was unable to place in the top 10. He represented Romania at the Olympic Games in Sochi and finished 25th out of 27 starters. In the following season he took part in four races in the Intercontinental Cup and five races in the World Cup, where he achieved his first World Cup placement in midfield with 16th place in Igls. At the World Championships in Winterberg he was 29th in the individual and 9th in the team.

In 2018 Velicu took part in its second Olympic Games . In Pyeongchang , he came in 24th.
