Dorin Nicolae Goian (born December 12, 1980 in Suceava , Suceava County ) is a former Romanian football player . The central defender played a total of 321 games in the Romanian League 1 , the Italian Serie A , the Scottish Premier League and the Greek Super League . In 2005 and 2006 he won the Romanian championship with Steaua Bucharest .

At the age of 17, Goian was committed by Foresta Fălticeni (later Foresta Suceava ), a small club near Suceava , where he was to play in the second team. Two years later he was brought into the first team and loaned to Gloria Buzau for a few months in 2000 . After his return, he plays in the Divizia A and Divizia B .

In 2003 he moved to FCM Bacau , for whose team Goian completed a season. He played 26 games and scored two goals. During this time he was appointed to the Romanian national team for the first time.

In August 2004 Goian moved to Steaua Bucharest , where he signed a 5-year contract. He scored his first goal for this team in the UEFA Cup against Vålerenga IF . In this competition he scored more goals against RC Lens , Halmstads BK , SC Heerenveen and FC Middlesbrough and was the most successful goalscorer of his team as a defensive player.

In August 2009 he signed a four-year contract with the Italian first division club US Palermo . There he reached the final of the Coppa Italia 2011 , but lost to Inter Milan there .

In the summer of 2011 Goian moved to Scotland to the Glasgow Rangers and signed a three-year contract there. In 2012, the Rangers were transferred to the Scottish Football League Third Division . Goian was then loaned to the Italian second division club Spezia Calcio for a year . After his return he left Scotland in August 2013 and joined the Greek first division club Asteras Tripolis . With his new club, he qualified for the Europa League at the end of the 2013/14 season . He ended his active career in the summer of 2016.

National team

Goian played his first game in the national team on November 16, 2005 against Nigeria . He was able to qualify with Romania for the European Football Championship in 2008 and was called up for the tournament in the squad. In the group games he ran in two games for the Romanians, but could not prevent the preliminary round.

Goian is married and has one daughter. His brother Lucian Goian (* 1983) is also a soccer player.
