Dorotty Szalma (born September 5, 1974 in Budapest ) is a theater director and acting director of the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater in Görlitz-Zittau .

Life

Szalma was born on September 5, 1974 into a theater family in Budapest. She later attended a secondary school in Vienna and received her Abitur in 1994. Already during her school days she was working as a freelancer for the Hungarian newspaper “Jugend der Welt” from Austria . After finishing school, she studied theater studies and Italian at the University of Vienna . Szalma also took over public relations work at the Auersperg Theater in the Austrian capital from 1994 . Two years later she moved to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main and studied theater directing for over three years. Since graduating at the turn of the millennium, she has been working as a freelance theater director and in 2002 she founded the theater group “Theatrum non Gratum”, in which she also took over the artistic direction. In 2007 she became deputy artistic director of the Mannheim University of Music in the field of opera . Back in her homeland, she took over the artistic direction of the Berzsenyi Theater in Szombathelv in Hungary that same year . Since the 2013/2014 season she has been the acting director at the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater Görlitz-Zittau.

Szalma is a member of the voters' association Zittau can do more and was elected to the city ​​council for the first time in 2014 .

Szalma lives with her family in Zittau .

Director

Szalma has worked as a director at the Bad Bentheim open-air plays , the Deutsches Theater Göttingen , the theaters in Erfurt , Aachen and Gießen and at numerous Hungarian theaters. She staged in the field of drama z. B. Friedrich Schiller's Maria Stuart , Werner Schwabs The Presidents , Samuel Becketts The Last Volume and repeatedly dealt with world premieres and German-language premieres . In the field of music theater, their spectrum ranges from Mozart pieces such as Die Entführung aus dem Serail to performances such as Schiller's Räuber - Rap'n Breakdance Opera .

At the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater she took over the direction of plays like Which drug suits me? (2015), the Christmas fairy tale " The Dancing Shoes " (2015) and "The Dragon in the Closet" (2016), but also in the Shakespeare comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream (2016).

Szalma received the Berzsenyi Prize for outstanding theater work and received 2nd place at the European Opera Directing Prize 2009 in Barcelona.
