Dreambox

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dreambox is the name for the DVB - Receiver in Lunen based company Dream Property GmbH . The receivers are available in different powerful versions and the Dreambox 7000 was the first receiver on the market that was delivered “ex works” with a Linux operating system.

All receivers, except for the DM 100 is common that they are using Linux - operating system work. This means that they can be individually adapted by the owner to the respective wishes. The older models were only available for DVB-S . Models for the reception of DVB-C and DVB-T have also been available since 2006, followed by models for DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 . Support for the various digital television standards is provided either by separate models (for the 500 series) or by plug-in and thus interchangeable tuner modules (for the 600, 800, 7025, 7020 HD and 8000). Some models also offer the option of integrating a 2.5 "or 3.5" hard disk drive . This enables up to about six simultaneous recordings and time-shifted television (timeshift).

The Dreamboxes became more well-known in the media in spring 2007 when it became known that Premiere's Nagravision encryption could be bypassed with the appropriate software .

The receivers are able to display the Radio Screen Show information service (transmission of images parallel to reception of radio stations).

  1. The speed of Ethernet is expressed in megabits / s. “10/100” corresponds to 100BASE-TX, also known as Fast Ethernet , which can transmit a maximum of 100 megabits / s.
There are 8P8C modular plugs and jacks used. In the trade, their designation is usually "RJ-45."
  2. a b c d A DVB-C / T hybrid tuner can receive either a cable television signal or a digital terrestrial television signal.
  3. a b c The connection via a serial interface is made possible by means of a mini USB adapter.
  4. a b Although this model does not have an HDMI output, it can be fully connected to an HDMI input via the DVI output using the cable supplied .

Models

DM 100

The DM 100 is the smallest of all Dreamboxes (195 mm × 130 mm × 30 mm). There is only one satellite version of the DM 100. The operating system is not based on Linux like the other models and is also not open source. The reason for this is that Dream Multimedia is neither a seller of the DM 100 nor a developer of the associated software. Only the use of the name was licensed and technical support was taken over.

DM 500 and DM 500+

The DM500 and DM500 + do not have an LC display, but only 2 status LEDs and their dimensions are very compact (195 mm × 130 mm × 40 mm). The DM500 was available ex works as DVB-S, DVB-C and DVB-T, the DM500 + only as DVB-S. However, unlike the newer boxes, the tuners are not interchangeable. The DM500 + also has 32 MB NAND Flash and 96 MB RAM working memory in contrast to the DM500 with 8 MB NOR Flash and 32 MB RAM working memory and an improved Ethernet interface (chipset of the DM500 was too slow).

Technical specifications:

  • 250 MHz PowerPC processor
  • 2 × LED display
  • MPEG-2 hardware decoding, DVB-C / T / S
  • Smartcard reader (Dreamcrypt CA)

  • analog modem (only DM500 +)

DM 500 HD

The DM 500 HD is a technically reduced version of the DM 800 HD PVR in the housing of a DM 500 without a display. It is the first Dreambox to offer an HDMI instead of a DVI output. Like the DM 8000 HD PVR, it also has a faster 400 MHz MIPS processor (Broadcom BCM7405). The DM 500 HD has a built-in analog modem, while the mini-USB socket on the device only represents a "USB serial device" to update the firmware via a PC. A new revision of this box has been on the market since summer 2013, which has a larger main memory of 512 MB instead of 256 MB and a flash memory of 1 GB instead of 64 MB (V2). This was necessary in order to add new services such as B. to realize HbbTV.

Other features:

  • MPEG-4 H.264 ( 1080p ) and HDMI .
  • DVB-S2 or DVB-C / T tuner, permanently installed (depending on model)
  • 10/100 Mbit Ethernet interface RJ45
  • HDMI connection (HDCP compliant), CEC support
  • Smart card reader
  • S / PDIF optical connection (Toslink)

  • the support of high definition TV up to 1080i
  • integrated PWM fan

DM 5600 and DM 5620

The DM 5600 was only sold for a relatively short time and was then replaced by the 5620, which was supplemented with a network interface. Otherwise there are no differences between the DM 5600 and the DM 5620. This box also has no LC display, but a 4-digit 7-segment display. The RF ( UHF ) modulator enables the connection of a television set without a SCART socket.

DM 600 PVR

The 600 PVR can be seen as the successor to the 500. A major difference is the optional internal 2.5 ″ IDE hard disk. The main feature is the 250 MHz PowerPC processor and the Linux operating system. The Dreambox DM600 PVR supports the standard Linux API ( DirectFB , Linux-FB , LIRC , ...), ENIGMA1 . It has interchangeable tuners for DVB-C / S / T.

Technical specifications:

  • 250 MHz PowerPC processor
  • 2 × LED display
  • Changeable tuner plug & play (DVB-S, DVB-T, DVB-C; freely selectable)

DM 7000

DM7000-S front view

The 7000 Dreambox is a pure satellite receiver and came onto the market in 2003. It offers the option of installing a hard disk. The device has no fans and therefore works silently.

DM 7020

The DM 7020 is the successor to the DM 7000. The differences to the DM 7000 are essentially detailed improvements which are intended to eliminate the known hardware-related weaknesses of the DM 7000.

  • The device is operated with a separate power supply from a third-party manufacturer, which is why problems with starting currents from hard drives should be a thing of the past.
  • The CF slot now has a separate IDE bus to eliminate the known problems when using the hard disk and CF disks at the same time.
  • An HF modulator, video cinch and an external 12 V power supply for satellite switching are among the other innovations.
  • Additional tools such as Samba , DHCP etc. can be installed on the DM 7020 with iPKG quite easily .

Technical specifications:

  • 250 MHz PowerPC processor
  • Large LC display
  • MPEG-2 hardware decoding, DVB-S
  • 1 × DVB common interface slot
  • 2 × smart card readers (Dreamcrypt CA)

DM 7020 HD

The DM 7020 HD was brought onto the market as a model update of the DM 7025 (+). The main difference is the support of DVB-S2 tuners for receiving HD programs. Furthermore, the hardware has been updated, for example a 400 MHz MIPS processor is now used, which is related to the processor of the DM 8000. Version 2 (V2) was released in summer 2013. It only differs from its predecessor in that it has memory modules from another manufacturer. The DM 7020 HD is supplied as standard with a DVB-S2 and a DVB-C / T combi tuner, but it is also available in other combinations. With the new DVB-S2 twin tuner as an extension, up to 4 inputs are possible.

Main features:

  • 2 arbitrarily miscible and pluggable Plug and Play - Tuner (2 DVB-S - Tuner are about DTT - and DVB-C - Tuner are available as accessories)
  • Due to the new CPU , the 7025 can also decode MPEG-2 - HDTV . Since the box has no digital video outputs, the corresponding channels are only output scaled (i.e. in SDTV ). However , the stations can be viewed in full quality on the PC monitor via the web interface . The DM7025 + has an OLED display instead of LCD, an improved power supply unit (lower temperature with built-in HDD) and an eject button for the CI slot.
