Duckmaus is a location in the north of the Bergisch city ​​of Wuppertal .

Location and description

The location is in the middle of the Uellendahl-West residential area in the Uellendahl-Katernberg district at an altitude of 271 meters above sea ​​level . The location is at the end of a branch road that branches off from Kohlstrasse .

Etymology and history

In the 19th century Duckmaus belonged to the Mirker Rotte of the Lord Mayor's Office of Elberfeld . The place is marked on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 as Tukhaus , on the Prussian first photo from 1843 as Dukmaus .

In 1815/16 there are 39 inhabitants. According to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district in 1832 , the place was categorized as an arable and craftsman's home . Duckmaus is the name and at that time owned three houses and four farm buildings. At that time 39 people lived in the village, all of them Protestant faith.

To the west of Duckmaus, a coal route ran from Sprockhövel to Elberfeld (here today's Kohlstrasse, so named because of this ), on which coal from the mines in the southern Ruhr area to the factories in Wuppertal in the late 18th century and in the first half of the 19th century which at that time was the industrial heart of the region.

The yard is marked on measuring table sheets until the end of the 20th century.
