Eberhard Binder (graphic designer)
Eberhard Binder (born May 2, 1924 in Staßfurt ; † March 9, 1998 in Magdeburg , also called Eberhard Binder-Staßfurt ) was a German graphic artist , illustrator and book designer .
Life
In 1941/1942 Binder attended the Master School of German Crafts (Werkkunstschule) in Hildesheim . From 1949 to 1952 he graduated from the technical school for applied arts in Magdeburg .
After his training he worked as a commercial artist and from 1955 worked as a book illustrator and designer. He had his first success with the illustration of the book Tom Sawyer's Adventures . His work comprises around 800 book illustrations, including numerous children's books, books by Jules Verne and classics such as The Sorrows of Young Werther , Moby Dick and Gulliver's Travels . Binder's illustrations for the children's lexicon From Anton to Cylinder or the Jugendweihe gift book Weltall Erde Mensch , which could be found in almost every GDR household, were particularly well-known and widespread .
In 1998 Eberhard Binder died in Magdeburg after a long illness. Binder was married to the illustrator Elfriede Binder .
Awards
Eberhard Binder was awarded the National Prize of the GDR 2nd class for art and literature in 1985.
