Eberhard Martini

Eberhard Martini (born May 31, 1935 in Augsburg ; † January 29, 2009 in Feldkirch , Austria ) was a German bank manager. From 1988 to 1998 he was Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechselbank .

Life

Eberhard Martini came from an old Augsburg textile entrepreneur family. After graduating from high school and doing an industrial internship in Augsburg, he completed a banking apprenticeship at Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechselbank (Hypo-Bank). From 1957 to 1961 he studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , Universität Innsbruck and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München . After the Second State Exam in 1966 he was in Munich with Eugen Ulmer with a thesis on "Legal problems of a real estate certificate" for Dr. iur. PhD. In 1967 he joined Hypo-Bank and was initially a trainee lawyer at Hypo-Bank. In 1969 he rose to the management level and in 1972 became the Swabian regional head of the credit institution. In 1976 he became a general representative and in 1981 took over the management of active / passive management in the Munich headquarters.

In 1986 he became a board member and in 1988 board spokesman of Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechselbank. He was Chairman of the Board of Management of the Bavarian Bankers Association and in 1991 replaced Wolfgang Röller , former head of Dresdner Bank, as President of the Association of German Banks . In 1998 he moved to the supervisory board of the new Hypo-Vereinsbank when it merged with Bayerische Vereinsbank . Legal disputes during the takeover due to alleged personal management errors, breach of trust and falsification of the balance sheet was stopped in exchange for a monetary issue and he finally resigned from the supervisory board in 1999. Martini held numerous supervisory board mandates such as the Spaten-Franziskaner-Brauerei , the Maffei bank and the Hof textile group.

He died in the Feldkirch regional hospital as a result of a skiing accident near the Steinmähderbahn valley station near Lech in Vorarlberg .

Eberhard Martini was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land and was a member of the German Association of the Holy Land . In 1970 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and invested in the order on December 5, 1970 in Cologne Cathedral by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . In 1986 he was appointed officer of the Papal Laity Order.
