The Ebersnacken is 460.4  m above sea level. NN the highest mountain in the wooded Weserbergland- Mittelgebirge Vogler in Lower Saxony , Germany and a popular hiking destination because of its observation tower .

Geographical location

The Ebersnacken is located in the district of Holzminden approximately half a straight line between Bodenwerder in the northwest and Stadtoldendorf in the southeast. It belongs to the northern part of the Solling-Vogler Nature Park .

Boar's Neck Tower

On the summit of the Ebersnacken stands the 26 m high Ebersnacken Tower , an open timber frame construction with an internal staircase, the observation platform of which towers above the surrounding tree tops.

As early as 1890, a 13 m high surveying tower was built on the Ebersnacken. In 1922 a new tower was built, which collapsed in 1946. A tower was not built again until 1960, which was replaced by the current tower in 1989.

The structure, which weighs 15.5 t in total, was transported up the mountain in two parts with the help of a helicopter of the British Air Force and finally assembled there on September 6, 1989. There is a sign on the tower with a report on it. In 2000 the tower was restored.

From the tower the view extends over the Vogler and the surrounding Weser Uplands to the west to the Hermannsdenkmal in the Teutoburg Forest and to the east to the Harz .

hike

There is no public road leading to the summit, it can only be reached on hiking trails , for example from the south-east of Holenberg or from the west of Rühle .
