career
Müller began playing football at TSV Eltingen and in 1967 moved to the juniors at VfB Stuttgart . In the active area, he first played for the amateur team and rose in 1973 to the professional squad of the Swabians. With the VfB amateurs, Müller won the championship in the 1st Amateur League North Württemberg in 1970/71 and made it into the final in the competition for the German amateur championship. This was lost on July 10, 1971 in Würzburg with 0: 1 against defending champion SC Jülich 1910 ; in the final, however, Müller was not used. He played his first Bundesliga game on May 19, 1973, when he was substituted on for Karl Berger at halftime on the 31st matchday in the 4-2 home win against Wuppertaler SV . He played this game as a VfB amateur. It was not until round 1973/74 that he, like his comrades Markus Elmer and Klaus-Dieter Jank, was accepted into the professional squad. The goal scorer hope Hermann Ohlicher was committed by FV Ravensburg .
In his first year as a professional, 1973/74, he played 15 Bundesliga games under coach Hermann Eppenhoff and was also featured in four UEFA Cup games against Olympiacos Nicosia and Tatran Presov. After he was only used in six games (1 goal) in the Bundesliga in 1974/75 and VfB was relegated to the 2nd division at the end of the round, he switched to local rivals Stuttgarter Kickers in the 2nd Bundesliga . Here he played a total of 332 second division games until 1986 and scored ten goals. He was a member of the Kickers team, which on October 5, 1975 won the home game in the local derby against VfB in the 2nd Bundesliga in front of 29,000 spectators 2-0. In the rounds of 1979/80 and 1980/81 he took 3rd place with the Kickers and just barely missed the entry with teammates like Karl Allgöwer , Guido Buchwald , Dieter Dollmann , Peter Stichler , Werner Vollack , Klaus Täuber and Werner Nickel the Bundesliga. In the "Blauen" from Degerloch, Müller played under the coaches Rudolf Kröner , Hans Cieslarczyk , Hans-Dieter Roos , Slobodan Cendic , Jürgen Sundermann , Horst Buhtz and Dieter Renner .
At the end of his career, he played for SGV Freiberg in the 1986/87 season .
