history

The agency was founded in 1952 by former journalist Daniel Edelman as Daniel J. Edelman and Associates . The company started with three employees and in 1960 was already working for 25 customers. In the same year Edelman founded a second office in New York City , and in 1967 a third was added in Los Angeles .

In the late 1960s and early 1970s offices were opened in North America (Canada), Asia and Europe (London). Under the leadership of Daniel Edelman's son Richard Edelman, the New York office increased sales from $ 1 million to $ 20 million from 1979 to the late 1980s. In 1981 Edelman had five international offices.

In 1985 the founder stepped down and his son Richard Edelman took over the management of the company. In the 1990s, Edelman opened offices in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, South Korea, China and Belgium. Sales rose to $ 70 million in 1994.

With the company's website, which was activated in 1995, it was the first PR agency with a website and also began to implement web-based projects for customers. Today around 1,100 digital experts work for the company.
