Meikayla Jean-Maree Moore (born June 4, 1996 in Christchurch ) is a New Zealand soccer player who is active for the New Zealand national team and has been with MSV Duisburg since 2018 .

Career

After playing for various clubs in New Zealand, Moore was signed by Bundesliga newcomer 1. FC Köln in 2018 , for whom she played eight league games in the second half of the season. After the club relegated at the end of the season as the penultimate, she moved to league rivals MSV Duisburg . In Duisburg she made 20 league appearances. On November 4, 2018, she scored her first Bundesliga goal in a 2-1 defeat against champions VfL Wolfsburg . Duisburg finished the season in ninth place. Due to an injury, she could not be used in the first half of the 2019/20 season. She only got fit again at the start of the second half of the season.

National team

Moore took part in the U-17 Oceania Championship 2012 with the U-17 team in April 2012 . By winning the championship, the team qualified for the U-17 World Cup in 2012 in Azerbaijan . There the young New Zealanders met stronger opponents. After three defeats, New Zealand was eliminated from the bottom of the group.

On September 26, 2013, she made her debut in New Zealand's senior team in a 4-0 win over China .

In February 2014 she participated in the U-20 Oceania Championship 2014 in her native New Zealand. Moore was only used in two games, but wore the captain's armband . With three victories, New Zealand was able to win this championship and qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Canada in 2014 . In March 2014 she then took part with the senior team in the Cyprus Cup 2014 , in which New Zealand could only win the game for 11th place against Finland .

In August 2014, she participated in the U-20 World Cup in Canada, where she was used in all of the team's games. New Zealand finished in second place behind European champions France in the group stage and thus reached the quarter-finals for the first time in a World Cup. But here came the end against the later vice world champion Nigeria.

Two months later, she took part with New Zealand's senior team in the 2014 Oceania Championship , where New Zealand qualified for the 2015 World Cup. Moore was used in the three games against the Cook Islands , Papua New Guinea and Tonga . After that, Moore was only used on January 15, 2015 in the second of two friendly matches against Denmark , which took place in Belek ( Turkey ). On May 14, 2015, she was appointed to the squad for the 2015 World Cup . At the World Cup, where New Zealand was eliminated in the preliminary round, it was not used. She was also nominated for the 2016 Olympic Games. But she was only substituted on in the 1-0 win against Colombia in the 90th minute. The New Zealanders lost the other two games and were eliminated as the worst group third.

From the Cyprus Cup 2017 she was a regular player. On June 10, 2018, she scored her first goal for the senior national team in the 3-1 loss to Asian champions Japan .

At the 2018 Oceania Championship , she was used in four of the five games and scored two goals. As tournament winners, the New Zealanders qualified for the 2019 World Cup and the 2020 Olympic Games .

On April 29, she was nominated for the World Cup in France . However, she missed the tournament because she tore an Achilles tendon right before it started in training .
