Danica Joëlle Wu (born August 13, 1992 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian soccer player .
Life
Wu was born in 1992 to an immigrant from Hong Kong and a Canadian from Medicine Hat in Edmonton, Alberta. In Edmonton, she attended Ross Sheppard High School from 2006 to 2010 , before enrolling in International / Global Studies at Ohio State University in 2010 . She completed this course in spring 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts .
Career
society
Wu started her active career at the age of four in the Sherwood Park Soccer Association. She ran for a total of six years for the Sherwood Park Soccer Association before joining the Ottawa Furys in 2000. There Wu played in his youth alongside the later women's Bundesliga players Mélissa Busque , Tiffany Cameron , Christina Julien , Christabel Oduro and Kylla Sjoman . During this time she represented Team Alberta at the Canada Summer Games 2007 in Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory as team captain and was elected to the All-Star Team during these games. Wu also played on the Women Soccer Team Thunderbirds at Ross Sheppard High School in Edmonton from 2006 to winter 2009 . In 2009 Wu left Ottawa Fury and joined the Laval Comets. During this time, she also played in the NJCAA for the university team of the Ohio State Buckeyes .
On July 31, 2014, Wu and her compatriot Christabel Oduro completed a trial training session at the newly promoted Bundesliga Herford SV . There she was able to convince the trainer Jürgen Prüfer and signed a one-year contract on August 7, 2014. After she came to 21 games for Herford in the Bundesliga and the club was relegated at the end of the 2014/15 season, Wu briefly returned to the Laval Comets. A little later she signed the Bundesliga relegated MSV Duisburg . After 52 games for MSV Duisburg in the 2nd Bundesliga and the Bundesliga, she signed a two-year contract with league rivals SGS Essen at the end of May 2018 . On June 14, 2019, she terminated her contract, which was valid until June 30, 2020, by mutual agreement and returned to Canada . In February 2020 Danica Wu was signed again by the relegation-threatened MSV Duisburg.
National team
At the CONCACAF U-17 championship in 2008 in Trinidad and Tobago , she won the bronze medal with the Canadian U-17 national team. At the CONCACAF U-20 championship in Panama in 2012 , Wu won the silver medal with the U-20 team after losing to the USA in the final. This second place enabled the team to qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Japan in 2012, and Wu played all three preliminary round matches for the team. Team Canada played the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in 2012. Wu made her full international debut on June 3, 2013 in a 2-0 loss to the United States at BMO Field in Toronto . On July 10, 2015, Wu was named to the squad of the Canadian national team for the Pan American Games .

In July 2013, Wu took over the U-12 team of the Sherwood Park Soccer Association for three months, alongside former American Professional Soccer League professionals Lloyd Barker ( Montreal Impact ) and South African Sipho Sibiya ( Vancouver 86ers ).
