Eduard Ferdinand Theodor Baring (born December 21, 1838 in Hitzacker , † February 23, 1900 in Aurich ) was a German general superintendent of the Lutheran Church.

Eduard Baring comes from the Baring family , he was the eldest son of the evangelical pastor and later superintendent of Hollenstedt near Harburg Friedrich Eduard Albrecht Baring (1805–1886) and Sophie Louise nee. Koch (1801–1886), daughter of the landowner of Ornum in Schleswig . Baring had another brother, Georg Friedrich Julius Ferdinand Baring (1841–1915), pastor primarius in Gronau , member of the committee of the preachers widow's fund .

Baring married on September 8, 1870 in Ronnenberg Marie Arnemann (1844-1912), daughter of the Ronnenberg superintendent Arnemann. The couple had no children.

Live and act

Eduard Baring attended the Andreanum in Hildesheim and studied theology at the University of Erlangen from 1857 to 1858 . In October 1858 he moved to the University of Göttingen . Then he learned at the preacher's seminary in Hanover.

After completing his training, Baring worked for a short time as an assistant chaplain (Parochi cooperator) at various locations in southern Lower Saxony. In September 1870 he took over the second pastorate of the community of Gehrden and looked after it until 1877. On July 1, 1877, he changed as pastor to the St. Alexandri Church in Einbeck . Thus he also received the superintendent of the Einbeck inspection. On June 30, 1889, he was appointed Lutheran general superintendent of East Frisia . At the same time he entered the royal consistory . The inauguration took place on September 26, 1889. At the same time he became a member of the consistory in Aurich, which also included the reformed general superintendent for East Frisia. From 1890, Baring was also an extraordinary member of the Hanover State Consistory .

Baring was a popular speaker and speaker. According to an obituary, he succeeded in doing this “through the depth and warmth of his conviction and the impression of his lecture”. Fellow men did not regard him as a “prince of the church” in the political-authoritarian, “but in the ethical sense”. He acted against the social democracy in an authoritarian manner, which, however, was not primarily related to himself, but to the fundamental church policy of his time.

Baring died unexpectedly of flapping river after he had delivered a sermon two days earlier , which was later printed in Soltau . He was buried in the Baring family's inheritance in Hanover.
