Eduard Freiherr von der Goltz (born July 31, 1870 in Langenbruck , † February 7, 1939 in Greifswald ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Eduard von der Goltz, the son of the theologian Hermann von der Goltz and his wife Anna, b. von Delius, studied from 1889 to 1893 at the universities of Berlin, Halle and Bonn . In 1889 he became a member of the SBV Tuiskonia Halle in the Schwarzburgbund . In Berlin he was licensed in theology in 1893 . From 1894 to 1897 he went on study trips through Europe. In 1898 he became pastor in Deyelsdorf in Western Pomerania . In 1902 he completed his habilitation in Berlin and became a private lecturer. From 1906 he headed the seminary in Wittenburg ( West Prussia ).

Eduard von der Goltz went to the University of Greifswald in 1907 to take up a position as associate professor. From 1912 until his retirement in 1935 he was a full professor of practical theology and in 1927 rector of the university. Here he became honorary philistine of Greifswalder Wingolf in 1913 . In addition, he was consistorial advisor and spiritual member of the Evangelical Pomeranian Consistory in Stettin from 1925 . He was a member of the Synod of the Provincial Church in Pomerania and the Old Prussian General Synod. From 1929 to 1933 he was a member of the Prussian Church Senate.

In 1919 he was one of the founding members of the Society for Church History. He was also a member of the Evangelical Association . In 1927 he became a member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt .

family

Eduard von der Goltz married Marie Bechmann (1869–1946), daughter of the university professor August von Bechmann , a direct descendant of the lawyer and philosopher Christian Thomasius , on July 4, 1898 in Munich . The couple had two daughters.
