Edward James Slattery (born August 11, 1940 in Chicago , USA ) is an American clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Tulsa .

Life

Edward Slattery attended the Visitation of the BVM Grade School and the Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago . At St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein Slattery earned a Master of Divinity . He received on 26 April 1966 by the Archbishop of Chicago , John Cody , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

From 1966 to 1971 was Edward James Slattery assistant priest in the parish of St. Jew the Apostle Parish in South Holland , Illinois . He was Vice President from 1971 to 1976 and President of the Catholic Church Extension Society from 1976 to 1994. In addition, Slattery was pastor of the parish of St. Rose of Lima from 1976 to 1989 .

On November 11, 1993 Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Tulsa and also donated him episcopal ordination on January 6, 1994 ; Co-consecrators were the official in the Vatican State Secretariat , Archbishop of the Curia Giovanni Battista Re , and the Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Archbishop of the Curia Josip Uhač .

He is the Prior of the Tusla Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

On May 13, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
