biography
Reeker's father was initially a railroad worker , later a councilor and mayor . His mother was a housewife . He also has an older brother named Martin. Edward Reekers discovered his interest in music at a young age. He started out playing the jaw harp and began singing at the age of three. When he was ten, he got his first guitar from his brother and taught himself to play. He played as a left-hander on an instrument for right-handers , i.e. backwards. During this time, Reekers wrote his first song, Flower Girl , and took piano lessons .
Because his father became mayor there, the family moved to Berkel en Rodenrijs during Edward Reekers' sophomore year in high school . This was followed by a move to Laurenscollege Rotterdam , where Reekers became a member of the school band, first as a guitarist, later as a keyboardist , drummer and singer. The group was called "Suzy Cream Cheese" (after a song by Frank Zappa ) and developed over time into an experienced pop band that also performed outside of school and had songs by Yes and other bands in their repertoire .
After a few changes in line-up and Reekers' graduation, he began studying German and English in Delft to become a teacher. The band was renamed "Tacit" and recorded Mademoiselle Michelle's first own record . Demo recordings were made with two friends , which Reekers sent to the band Kayak , of which he was a fan. After an audition, he became the new singer of this group and already took part in the recordings of the 1978 album Phantom of the Night . In 1981 he left the formation and first became a househusband, while his wife worked as a doctor's assistant .
Through the singer Jody Pijper ( Stars on 45 ) and the singer and bassist Pim Roos, Reekers got his first jobs as a background singer . a. for Lee Towers . He also sang commercials and jingles , e.g. B. for SkyRadio . Reekers was also a member of the backing band of the Dutch singer-songwriter Nadieh , with whom he even traveled as far as Japan for an open-air show . This was followed by an audition for the cartoon series The Bobobops , in which he spoke the two main roles.
He later dubbed many series and films and also took on directing duties. He was z. B. responsible for the Dutch versions of the Harry Potter films . In 1998 Reekers sang the introlong of the film The Lion King II: Simba's Pride and took over the lead vocals on Tarzan 2 . In 2004 he returned to Kayak, initially as a representative for Bert Heerink, then as a permanent member. In 2008 the third solo album Child of the Water was released . In January 2015 the band announced on their website that Reekers is leaving Kayak again.
