Jade Castrinos and Alex Ebert at the TFF Rudolstadt 2013

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is an American band from Los Angeles , California . The band can be assigned to the genres of alternative rock , pop rock and indie folk .

history

The band was founded in 2007 by Alex Ebert , the singer of the band Ima Robot . Shortly before, Ebert met the singer Jade Castrinos in a café and decided to make music with her.

In the summer of 2008 the band completed their first tour through America and gave their first concert at the Marfa Film Festival in Marfa (Texas) .

About a year later, on July 14, 2009, the band released their first album called Up from Below , which reached number 76 on the Billboard 200 . A little later, the EP Here Comes followed .

Surname

The band's name comes from a fictional character that Alexander Ebert invented after completing a twelve-step program for coping with a drug problem. The character was a kind of messiah who was sent to earth to save humanity, but was then "distracted" by several girls and often fell in love.

Big Easy Express

In April 2011 the band went on the Railroad Revival Tour through the United States with Mumford & Sons and Old Crow Medicine Show . The three bands rode a 14-car train from Oakland to New Orleans and played six concerts along the way. The tour was captured in the documentary Big Easy Express by Emmett Malloy.
