Edward Theuns (born April 30, 1991 in Ghent ) is a Belgian racing cyclist .
Athletic career
In his first year among adults, Theuns won a section of Le Triptyque des Monts et Châteaux in 2010 . After winning the individual time trial of this stage race and the mountain classification of the Giro della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia in 2013, he received a contract with the UCI Professional Continental Team Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise for 2014 and 2015 , for which he won his first victory in the 2014 one-day race at Grote Prijs Stad Zottegem scored. His most successful season so far was 2015, which he finished in second place in the annual ranking of the UCI Europe Tour 2015 : He won the points classification of the Étoile de Bessèges , the Ronde van Drenthe and one stage each of the Four Days of Dunkirk and the Tour de l ' Eurométropole . He was also runner- up at the Scheldeprijs and Dwars door Vlaanderen .
In 2016 Theuns moved to the UCI WorldTeam Trek-Segafredo . At the Scheldeprijs he was fourth this time, at Dwars door Vlaanderen third and won a stage in the Tour of Belgium . At the Tour de France 2016 , he started a Grand Tour for the first time and, as the leader of the junior class, wore the white jersey for one day after the first stage , but in the individual time trial on the 13th stage , Theuns fell badly on a descent, broke a vortex and had to end the remaining season early.
In 2017 he won the fourth stage of the BinckBank Tour in a mass sprint and thus his first race in the UCI WorldTour . At the end of the season, the Belgian won his last race with his team at the Tour of Turkey before he switched to Team Sunweb . After just one year, Theuns announced that they would be returning to Trek-Segafredo.
