The Efferaberg near Degersheim in Bavaria is 645.2  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Hahnenkamm, a part of the mountain range of the Franconian Alb . It is the second highest mountain in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district and the third highest in Middle Franconia .

Geographical location

The Efferaberg is located in the Altmühltal Nature Park between the Heidenheim districts of Degersheim in the northeast and Hechlingen in the southwest, around 4 km northeast of the Hahnenkammsee . To the north-northeast the landscape leads to the Hörlesbuck ( 634.7  m ) and to the southwest to the Kapellenberg ( 585.5  m ).

West of the Efferaberges flows the Westliche Rohrach , to the east the landscape leads over to the somewhat distant East Rohrach . At its western foot of the slope above the Rohrach there is a well-preserved stone channel made of tufa , sinter and alpine pasture , which is ten meters long, up to one meter wide and 0.3 meters high.

Natural allocation and landscape protection

The Efferaberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Franconian Alb (No. 08), in the main unit Southern Franconian Alb ( 082) and in the subunit Altmühlalb (082.2) to the natural area Hahnenkammalb (082.20), with its landscape to the west in the main unit group Franconian Keuper-Lias -Land (No. 11), in the main unit foreland of the southern Franconian Jura (110) and in the subunit Hahnenkamm-Vorland (110.2) in the natural area Hahnenkamm-Vorberge (110.21).

Parts of the nature reserve protection zone in the Altmühltal nature park are located on the Efferaberg ( CDDA no. 396115; designated 1995; 1,632.96  km² ).

Traffic and walking

The narrow connecting road between Degersheim in the north-east and Hechlingen in the south-west leads north-west past the Efferaberg. From the last-named village, State Road 2218 runs south of the mountain eastwards to Auernheim . From there, the district road WUG 34 leads east past the mountain in a north-northwest direction to Degersheim, where it meets the St 2218 to Hechlingen. Thus the mountain can be avoided. From these roads, the mountain can usually be hiked on forest trails and paths.
