The Egelsee is the northeasternmost lake of Kufstein , it is located directly on the German-Austrian border. The moor lake is a protected area because of its lake and pond roses , it is privately owned - swimming is prohibited.
Location and landscape
The Thierberg lakes ( Pfrillsee , Längsee , Hechtsee , Egelsee) are tectonic phenomena, small collapse basins that may have been favored by cavities or other karst phenomena. However, the Inntal Glacier had cleared them in the last Ice Age, dug them out and dammed them up with moraine debris and meltwater sediments.
Flora and fauna
A special feature are the large populations of the protected yellow pond rose ( Nuphar lutea ) and the good population of dragonflies .
The Egelsee has extensive reed banks and continues to silt up. It has now lost around a third of its original size. In this constantly damp silting zone is quaking , and stocks of Rundblättrigem sundew ( Drosera rotundifolia ) and cranberries ( Vaccinium oxycoccos ), as well as rare in Tirol cutting rush ( Cladium mariscus ).
In the south-east lies a wide wet meadow with pipe grass ( Molinia caerulea ).
Apart from a small fisherman's hut, there are no more buildings near the lake today.
natural reserve
The lake has been a designated natural monument since 1936 ( Egelsee with shore area , ND_5_10), and since 1978 also the shore area. The protection area covers 4.53 hectares . In addition, it was entered in the list of European protected areas in June 2000 , to the extent of 3.07 ha (the bank area a little less extensive) as an FFH area according to the Habitats Directive (site code: AT3307000).
