Architecture and history

The former Grand Ducal Central Office for the trade was built between 1893 and 1895 according to plans by senior building officer Victor von Weltzien . The three-storey neo - service building has nine axes.

The rusticated facade is adorned with a decorative pilaster defining the center with a triangular pediment . It has rich stonemason decoration, especially in the pilasters and in the decorative pediment of the central risalit . The gable group comes from the sculptor Friedrich Christoph Hausmann .
