Architecture and history
The former Grand Ducal Central Office for the trade was built between 1893 and 1895 according to plans by senior building officer Victor von Weltzien . The three-storey neo - service building has nine axes.
The rusticated facade is adorned with a decorative pilaster defining the center with a triangular pediment . It has rich stonemason decoration, especially in the pilasters and in the decorative pediment of the central risalit . The gable group comes from the sculptor Friedrich Christoph Hausmann .
The base was built from Londorf basalt lava and Gundelsheim sandstone . The upper floors are clad with sandstone. The gable group and various architectural parts are made of Pfalzburg sandstone. The pillars and pilasters at the portal are made of Bergstrasse granite ; the bases are made of syenite . The outside staircase and the main stairs inside are also made of granite.
The columns in the interior consist of Nassauer marble with Galvanobronce - capitals and - bases . The base of the wall cladding, the cornice parts and the pedestals inside were made of Belgian granite . A gently sloping hipped roof forms the upper end of the structure .
The structure was damaged in an air raid in 1944. In the post-war period, the building was rebuilt true to the original.
