Eicha is a district of the Upper Franconian municipality of Ahorn in the Coburg district .

geography

Eicha is about six kilometers southwest of Coburg am Wohlbach, a source of the Itz river . Municipal roads connect Eicha with the neighboring villages of Schafhof , Schorkendorf and Witzmannsberg . The federal highway 303 from Coburg to Schonungen leads north past Eicha. The old town is in the north, to the south there is now a much larger, new settlement area.

history

Eicha was mentioned in a document on April 15, 1290 under the name "in villa Eich" as a gift from Gundeloch Marshal von Cunstadt to the Langheim monastery . The name probably refers to one or more striking oak trees.

Another possibility is that the name Eicha is derived from the Roman de Quercu family, who settled in Germania, then from then on bore the name of Eich (Quercu). Part of that family came to Eich Castle or the town of Eich, today's Hohenstein, through the Würzburg Monastery. (Source: Eich; Adelsbuch Burgen Eichstätt) Note: Quercu = oak.

In the 1300 century, the place called Langheim from Tambach / Eicha / Hohenstein, Brille, Triebsdorf etc.

In 1256 Helmericus de Quercu sold his fiefs at Schorkendorf to Langheim.

A descendant of this family is Johann III. von Eych Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt (* 1404 in Eicha near Heldburg ; † January 1, 1464 *)

The possessions or fiefs of Hermann de Quercu in Eich (Hohenstein) and fiefs in Eichig near Arnstein were given to Langheim by Marshal Gundeloch. Eich Castle (Hohenstein) is part of the Langheim Cistercian Abbey.

Hermann von Eich began his service on April 15, 1290 as abbot in the Ebrach monastery! Political influence ends with the death of Hermann de Eich around 1306. The dukes of Henneberg are the feudal lords.

Eicha was a Ganerbendorf because there were two men with equal rights. The rulership of the village was held by the Cistercian Abbey of Langheim, represented by the Tambach monastery office , and the lords of Hohenstein . It was exercised every two years. In terms of denomination, Eicha was divided, according to the Protestant gentlemen on the Hohenstein, who belonged to the Principality of Saxony-Coburg , and the Catholic monks from Tambach, who belonged to the Würzburg monastery and later Bamberg monastery .

In 1803 Franconia became part of Bavaria and the Langheim monastery was dissolved in the course of secularization in Bavaria . The merger of the larger Eicha with Schorkendorf led to the rural community Schorkendorf.

In 1925 Eicha had 136 residents and 30 houses. On April 1, 1931, it was incorporated as part of the community of Schorkendorf from the Staffelstein District Office into the Coburg District Office .

On April 1, 1971, Schorkendorf and Eicha were incorporated into Ahorn. In 1987 the village had 636 inhabitants and 177 houses with 212 apartments. In 2004 there were 300 households.
