Eimerscheid is a village that belongs to the municipality of Büllingen in Belgium . On January 1, 2013, 52 people lived in the village with 23 inhabited houses. Up until a few decades ago, agriculture was the decisive economic factor with a focus on dairy farming, but the structures have changed so that there are only two full-time farms. In addition to dairy farming, these two farms also do some arable farming.

geography

Eimerscheid is located on a hill between 480 and 520 meters above sea level, in a north-easterly direction along the Medenderbach , which comes from the direction of Manderfeld / Frankenthal and flows into the Our in the neighboring village of Andler / Andler Mühle .

history

The first known mention of Eimerscheid comes from the year 1538. In old documents there is also mention of Immelscheid or Immerscheit , whereby it is assumed that “Imme” refers to bees or swarms of bees. The place name ending “-scheid”, which is widespread in the area, is associated with wood and forest. Places like Eimerscheid could therefore be viewed as forest settlements or clearings. Accordingly, Eimerscheid would simply mean bee forest . On the other hand, the ending “-scheid” also indicates the presence of a border.
