Krewinkel is a district of the large community Büllingen in the German-speaking Community (DG) in the far east of Belgium . Krewinkel has 84 inhabitants and belongs to the sub-community Manderfeld ; it is located around 3 kilometers east of the village of Manderfeld, 13 kilometers southeast of the main town of Büllingen and 12 kilometers north of Prüm .

Immediately north of the village is the hamlet of Afst, which has 33 inhabitants. Afst and the neighboring towns of Allmuthen and Kehr further north and east belong to the parish Krewinkel.

St. Eligius cultural chapel Krewinkel

Krewinkel was first mentioned in a document in 1397. It is assumed, however, that the place is much older and could have been inhabited as early as Roman times (approx. 57 BC to approx. 450 AD). This is indicated by a hill called the Römerberg, on which artifacts from this period were found.

The village has two church buildings: The Gothic St. Eligius Chapel, which dates back to the first half of the 16th century at the latest, is now used as the Krewinkel cultural chapel and is a listed building. It was sold to an open-air museum at the end of the 1960s, and due to several years of delays in the sales process, the purchase contract could be canceled. The chapel was extensively restored between 1992 and 2002, on this occasion well-preserved frescoes, probably from the period between 1480 and 1530, were uncovered in the choir, and the dilapidated old tower was renewed. The choir room was originally an independent prayer house. Immediately adjacent is the parish church of St. Eligius, a new building from 1964.
