Weckerath is a district of the large community Büllingen in the German-speaking Community (DG) in the far east of Belgium . It is located in a region characterized by agricultural grassland, the Manderfelder Land or Treeschland , and has 76 inhabitants.

geography

The place is about 2 kilometers southeast of the village of Manderfeld , 13 kilometers southeast of the main town Büllingen and about 12 kilometers north of Prüm . The German-Belgian border runs immediately south of the village; the Our flows west of the village in a southerly direction.

history

Weckerath emerged as a clearing settlement (the ending "-rath" indicates this) at a time when the Franconian land grab was opening up new settlement areas. In 1538 the place was mentioned as "Weckerode". Weckerath belonged to the Manderfeld community until 1977, before it was merged with Büllingen.
