action
Balthasar Pelkofer once set up a small business from his father's nursery. When his wife died almost ten years ago, the energetic man only lived for his flowers. It pains him all the more to have to give up his business. It simply can no longer compete with the lower prices of the garden center. But he doesn't give up because he thinks he will find work again quickly. With that he also turns down the help of his daughter Maxi. But as stubborn as Balthasar is, he remains unsuccessful. The attempt to find a permanent job in the unloved garden center fails on the first day of work. Rather, he now has to sublet his beloved villa in order to secure his existence. The architect couple Claire and Guido Mortensen are now moving in, while he himself lives in the basement. There he met Claire's mother Annette Eggers. She gives him advice on how to get his life back on track, and the two of them grow closer too. Balthasar invites Annette to go on a trip to the Eifel, which, however, does not go quite as Balthasar had expected. The last time he was here, years passed and a lot has changed there since then. As a result, the harmony between the two suffers and Balthasar has to go to great lengths to reconcile himself with Annette. This works because he finally takes his daughter's advice to put himself in other people's shoes in order to understand their feelings. When Balthasar learns from his daughter that he is going to be a grandfather, his little world is finally in order again.
Reviews
"(TV) comedy about an annoying, lovable cross driver who doesn't make things easy for his fellow men."
“Michael Faust staged this comedy based on the script by Sophia Krapoth [...] about a young woman who feels taken by surprise by the unexpected donations from her father. The good actors - especially Dickkopf who gave the title to Fritz Wepper - make the work stand out from the crowd of comparable films. "
“'If you want your head through the wall, it hurts at the first touch at the latest,' Wepper knows from personal experience. The director and the book cannot resist a few sentimentalities, stereotypes and violin wax. Still, it's fun and touching. Conclusion: balm for people who are dumped! "
