A seal and the great luck is a German television film by Imogen Kimmel from 2007. It is the sequel to A seal to fall in love with .

action

Dr. After many years, Knut Hansen marries his childhood sweetheart Stina Thorwald. Although Thomas Krugmann wants to come to church with his two children for the wedding, he doesn't make it because of a car breakdown. But he is finally there for the festivities and plans to move with his small family to Anne Petersen, whom he met and fell in love with on summer vacation. Anne is a fisherwoman and has an amusing pet: the tame seal William, which the children immediately love. At first the idyll seems perfect, but unexpectedly Thomas has to return to Hanover to take on a sick colleague. So Anne remains alone with the children and has to fight that the other fishermen do not steal their supply contracts from her. One day she meets Sabine, who takes her out on the sea in order to be able to talk to her undisturbed. There she confesses to her that she is pregnant and does not dare to tell Piet about it. Nor could she imagine giving up her job. And Anne, too, doubts whether she is up to the task of replacing the mother of Thomas' children.

This feeling is intensified when Anne's ex-boyfriend Robert suddenly appears, who wants to take her back, even though he almost broke her heart eight years ago. To make matters worse, her old boat is on strike and she is unable to fish at sea, threatening to delay deliveries and to run into financial hardship. Without being asked, Robert pays to repair the cutter, whereupon she almost forgave him. Thomas returns unexpectedly and finds Anne and Robert alone in the house. He draws his own conclusions from this and immediately moves to the “Krabbe” guesthouse. There he meets Knut Hansen, who also has relationship problems. Both speak out and Knut asserts that Robert is harmless. After all, he knew him from childhood. To relieve Anne, both plan that Knut should work part-time for Anne.

The next day, Anne and Thomas find each other ready for reconciliation. They confess their love to each other and Thomas proposes marriage to Anne on his knees on the beach. At the wedding ceremony that will soon take place, Robbe William brings them the rings and the young couple goes out to sea with Anne's festively decorated cutter.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from Kino.de was of the opinion: “Kimmel stages ['A seal and the great happiness'] with the same calmness with which a pair of penguins waddles through the village at night. But the characters are personable and their everyday problems can be understood at any time; So it doesn't really matter that, strictly speaking, the action consists only of secondary scenes. A boatman's piano and shanties create a sailor's atmosphere, and if nothing happens, the seal William, Anne's pet, acts as the break clown with his harmless pranks. Nice entertainment for the whole family. "

TV Spielfilm gave it a medium rating (thumbs to the side) and found: “Only slight irritations in the postcard world - don't worry!” And drew the conclusion: “Sterile advertising images for holidays in the Baltic Sea”.

The judgment of the critics was quite negative. They wrote: “'A seal and the great luck' unfortunately cannot maintain the charm of the first part [sic]. In the first third of the film, no action is discernible. The characters talk about trivialities, while over time it has something strangely limited that the main conversation partner of the protagonist is a seal, who is, however, intellectually on the same level as the other characters. Only with the 'Inciting Incident' at the end of the first act begins something that could be called a plot; but here too the film remains largely unexciting and meaningless. "
