history
The Ingush village was first mentioned in 1760. In 1919 it was burned down by Anton Denikin's troops during the Russian Civil War .
In connection with the deportation of the Ingush and liquidation of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR , the village was given the Russian name Novoardonskoje in 1944 (derived from Ardon , which flows not far in North Ossetia-Alania , Novo- for New ). After the Ingush returned in 1957, the old place name was restored in its Russified form.
Today Ekaschewo is the second largest rural community in the Republic of Ingushetia in terms of population, which in fact forms a unit with the other localities in the densely populated area along the Sunsha.
In connection with the Chechen wars and the related actions of Chechen and other separatists, the place made the headlines several times. On July 10, 2006, one of the most wanted terrorists, Shamil Basayev, was killed near by (according to rebel sources, he was killed in an accident). On March 2, 2010, a workshop was excavated on the outskirts of the village by FSB forces, which is said to have served in preparation for the bomb attack on the Nevsky Express between Moscow and Saint Petersburg in November 2009, with almost 30 dead. Several terrorists were killed in the previous firefight, including Umarov's confidante Alexander Tichomirov (better known as Said Buryatsky or Said abu Saad al-Buryati ), the first influential non-Caucasian or Arab to join the rebels.
