history
The Ingush village was probably founded in the 19th century; Details are not known. A good two kilometers away later a new settlement was built called Ach-Borzoi, founded by Orstchoiern (also called Karabulaks), a historical ethnic group close to the Ingush, who previously settled on the upper reaches of the Assa in the mountainous part of Ingushetia. In 1873 the villages were united under the name Sagopschi . During the period of deportation of the Ingush population from 1944 to 1957, the village was settled with Ossetians and carried the Ossetian name Nogzard ("New Life").
Since the Chechen wars in the 1990s, Sagopschi has been mentioned repeatedly in connection with terrorist activities. The brothers Chanpaschi and Nurpaschi Kulayev lived there before they took part in the 2004 hostage-taking of Beslan . On May 24, 2014, seven terrorist suspects were killed in Sagopschi in an action by the FSB and the Ingush security forces, including the one born in Sagopschi in 1975 and 2013 Artur Gatagaschew named “Emir” of Ingushetia by Doku Umarow.
