Ekkehard Lommel

Ekkehard Lommel (born December 14, 1913 in Weilburg ; † October 1, 2006 in Bensheim-Auerbach ) was a German local politician of the SPD .

Before taking office on April 19, 1951 as District Administrator of the Bergstrasse district , Lommel was a member of the government in the Hessian Ministry of the Interior. In 1960 he was the founding father of the Bergstrasse-Odenwald Nature Park as one of the first in Hesse, co-founder of the Rhine-Neckar Regional Planning Association in 1970 and a founding member of the German Forest Protection Association, Bergstrasse district association in 1980 and founder and long-term chairman of the Weschnitz Association of waters in 1958 and founder and in 1966 Chairman of the Lauter Winkelbach Association. Lommel was the recipient of the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1976 he received the plaque of honor of the Bergstrasse district and in 2001 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Lorsch .

Career

Lommel was born the son of the court assistant and later district judge Henner Lommel and his wife Gustel (née Schultze). The father died in World War I. After visiting the elementary school and the grammar school Philippum in Weilburg, from which he graduated in 1933 with a graduation examination, studied Lommel at the Universities of Giessen and Koenigsberg Law and graduated with passing the first state examination before the Judicial Examination Office at the Higher Regional Court of Darmstadt on June 19 1937 from. After seven months of preparation in the judicial service at the Weilburg district court, he was appointed government trainee with the district government in Magdeburg on August 16, 1938. On December 21, 1938, Lommel received his doctorate from the University of Giessen with the thesis The Asocial Problem and the Attempt to Solve it by a Preservation Act . Until 1939 he was a government trainee in the Wernigerode district office. Lommel became a soldier in 1939 and suffered a serious wound in 1941. He then completed administrative training in Naumburg an der Saale and with the district government in Merseburg, which he completed in 1943 with the Grand State Examination, whereupon he worked as a government assessor and later a councilor. In June 1945 Lommel became managing director of a production cooperative for the severely disabled in the Oberlahn district, in 1949 a consultant in the Hessian Ministry of the Interior, before he was elected district administrator for the Bergstrasse district in 1951 . In the years 1963–1965 he was also President of the Hessian District Assembly.

Ekkehard Lommel was the nephew of the doctor, politician and member of the Reichstag, Hans Lommel , as well as the dermatologist Walther Schultze .
