El Choro is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

El Choro is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) El Choro in the province of Cercado and is located at an altitude of 3704  m in the river valley of the Río Desaguadero , which flows east of the village from the Uru-Uru Lake to the Poopó Lake .

El Choro is located on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano in front of the Cordillera Azanaques , which is part of the Cordillera Central mountain range . The climate is a typical time of day climate in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are greater than during the year.

The annual average temperature of the region is around 8 ° C (see climate diagram Poopó) and fluctuates between 3 ° C in June and July and 11 ° C from November to March. The annual precipitation is around 350 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and significant precipitation only from December to March with 50 to 90 mm monthly precipitation.

El Choro is 61 kilometers by road south of Oruro , the capital of the department.

Oruro from the 279 km long leads highway Ruta 12 in a southwesterly direction over Challacollo , Toledo , Huachacalla and Sabaya after Pisiga at the Chilean border. Four kilometers southwest of Challacollo, the Ruta 12 crosses the Río Desaguadero , and directly behind the road bridge, a paved road branches off to the southeast, which reaches the town of El Choro after 34 kilometers .
