Elenito Galido

Elenito de los Reyes Galido (born April 18, 1953 in Managok , Bukidnon , Philippines ; † December 5, 2017 in Iligan City , Philippines) was a Filipino clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Iligan .

Life

Elenito Galido received after his philosophical and theological training at St. Fracis Xavier Regional Major Semnary in Davao City on April 25, 1979 the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Malaybalay . Among other things, he worked as a priest at St. Francis de Sales Church in Brooklyn, New York, where he completed postgraduate studies.

On March 25, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Iligan. The Archbishop of Manila , Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales , donated him episcopal ordination on September 8 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Dipolog , Jose Ricare Manguiran , and the Bishop of Malaybalay, Honesto Chaves Pacana SJ . Galido headed the Episcopal Commission for Culture (ECC) of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

During the five-month-long military clashes between government troops and the Islam-inspired Maute group in 2017 and the siege of the city of Marawi on July 23, 2017, Galido supported the evacuees and looked after thousands of families in his Christian and Muslim diocese.
