The Diocese of Iligan ( lat. : Dioecesis Iliganensis ) is the Philippines located Roman Catholic diocese based in Iligan City . It includes the province of Lanao del Norte .
history
Pope Paul VI founded the territorial prelature Iligan with the Apostolic Constitution Qui in Apostolici on February 17, 1971 from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Ozamis . The prelature was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro as a suffragan diocese.
The Territorial Prelature Iligan lost part of its territory on November 20, 1976 in favor of the establishment of the Territorial Prelature Marawi . With the bull Cum Decessores , the prelature was elevated to the diocese on November 15, 1982. This became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Ozamiz on January 24, 1983 .
