The Elfriede is a passenger ship built in 1921 and has been operating on the Schwerin Lakes since 1953 .

Construction and technical data

The ship was built in 1921 at the Berlin-Köpenick shipyard for Gustav Roggan from Berlin-Köpenick . Modifications were made in 1931 by Gustav Roggan in Berlin-Grünau and in 1965 by the Karl-Grieseler shipyard in Mukrena an der Saale . The ship is 19.98 m long (overall), 3.78 m wide and 1.10 m draft (loaded). The side height is 1.22 m. The ship has a dead weight of 27 tons and a deadweight of 10.9 tons. The 68 hp (50 kW ) 4-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine from Kämper installed in 1921 was replaced in 1965 by a 90 hp (66 kW) 4-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine of the SKL type 4 NVD 21 from the Leipzig diesel engine plant. The top speed of the single- screw ship has been 14 km / h (7.6 knots ) since then . The steel-made ship with a wooden structure initially offered space for 106 passengers : 27 on the open front deck, 72 in the passenger compartment and 7 on the aft deck under a fixed roof. Since the modernization in 1965, when the old wooden structure was replaced by a steel structure, there have only been 32 indoor seats and a total of 13 open seats in the front and aft.

use

From 1921 until the early years of the Second World War , the Elfriede drove from Berlin to the Löcknitz .

From 1952, like many inland vessels in the GDR , she operated as a contract ship for the VEB Deutsche Schiffahrts- und Umschlagbetriebe (DSU) in Berlin. As early as April 1953, the DSU planned to relocate the Elfriede together with the smaller Hansa to the Schwerin waters, where at that time the exclusively private passenger shipping should be transferred to the state- owned sector .

After the transfer from Berlin, the Elfriede reached Lake Schwerin on July 11, 1953 , and the first passenger trips were made on the same day. The legal ownership changed repeatedly in the course of the following ten years, as passenger shipping in the GDR was reorganized several times during these years. On April 6, 1955, the DSU Berlin bought the ship and in 1957 handed it over to VEB Fahrgastschiffahrt Berlin / Schwerin branch. From 1959 the Elfriede drove for the "VEB Hafen und Industriebahn Schwerin / Department White Fleet" and from January 1st 1964 the "VE (K) Nahverkehrsbetrieb Schwerin / Area White Fleet" was the legal owner.

In 1992, after the German reunification , the ships of the Schwerin Weisse Flotte were sold by the Treuhandanstalt to private owners, the "White Fleet Fahrgastschifffahrt Schwerin GmbH". The Elfriede , however, had to be taken out of service on April 25, 1992, as she had lost her driving license due to a loss of class. After the ground area had been repaired in a Hamburg shipyard, it was put back into service on June 5, 1993. Since then she has been used for charter and special trips on the Schwerin waters.
