Elias Nijmé

Elias Nijmé BA (born August 16, 1920 in Aleppo , Syria , † November 6, 1998 ) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Tripoli in Lebanon .

Auxiliary Bishop in Antioch

Elias Nijmé was ordained a priest of the Aleppine Basilians on July 20, 1944 ( order abbreviation : BA). With the appointment as archbishop " pro hac vice " and auxiliary bishop in the Melkite Patriarchate of Antioch , the appointment as titular archbishop of Palmyra dei Greco-Melkiti also took place on August 16, 1971 . On September 5, 1971, he was the patriarch of Antioch Archbishop Maximos V Hakim and the co-consecrators Archbishop ( em. ) Athanasios Toutoungi of Aleppo and Archbishop Gregoire Haddad of Beirut and Jbeil for consecrated bishop .

Archbishop of Tripoli

On February 7, 1978 Nijmé was appointed to Archbishop of Tripoli and officiated in Tripoli until his age-related retirement on August 5, 1995. He then worked as senior archbishop until his death on November 6, 1998, and assisted as co-consecrator at Bishop Georges Kahhalé Zouhaïraty BA titular Bishop of Abila Lysaniae , who was appointed Apostolic Exarch of Venezuela .
