Ellenburg is a town in Clinton County , New York, United States . At the time of the United States Census , the Town of Ellenburg had 1,743 inhabitants. It is named after the daughter of the main owner at the time. Ellenburg is on the county’s western border and is northwest of Plattsburgh . The southern part of the town is in Adirondack Park .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has an area of ​​278.3 km 2 , of which 276.0 km 2 is land and 2.3 km 2 (= 0.83%) is water. The western border of the town in this area forms the boundary between Clinton County and Franklin County .

US Highway 11 runs through the northeastern part of Ellenburg while New York State Route 190 (Military Turnpike) crosses the town in an east-west direction and crosses US-11 in the village of Ellenburg. The New York State Route 374 runs the Town through the south-west corner. Within the Town of Ellenburg are:

history

White colonization of the area began around 1800 but was delayed due to the British-American War . Ellenburg was named after Ellen Murray, the daughter of the early landowner.

The town was formed in 1830 from part of the town of Mooers .

The population in Ellenburg consisted of 98.79% of White , 0.06% Black or African American , 0.11% Native American , 0.22% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0.22% said other races to belong and 0.61% named two or more races. 0.83% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
