Ellingerode is a district of Witzenhausen in the northeastern part of the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse .

Geographical location

Ellingerode is located east of the Kaufunger Forest in the Kleinalmeröder hill country about three kilometers (as the crow flies ) southwest of the core town of Witzenhausen on the Wilhelmshäuser Bach . The district road  65 runs through the village and is the connection between the state road  3389 ( Roßbach - Kleinalmerode ) and the L 3237 (Kleinalmerode - Witzenhausen).

history

The village was first mentioned in a document on May 8, 1352. The place belonged to the Hessian office of Ludwigstein / Witzenhausen until 1821 and then to the district of Witzenhausen . During the French occupation, the place belonged to the canton of Witzenhausen in the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813).

On January 1, 1974 Ellingerode was incorporated into the city of Witzenhausen.
