Els Biesemans (* 1978 in Antwerp , Belgium) is a Belgian organist and pianist who lives in Zurich / Switzerland.

Career

Els Biesemans studied piano with Alan Weiss and Jan Vermeulen, organ with Reitze Smits and chamber music at the LUCA School of Arts Leuven in Belgium . She completed her studies with a Master of Music and the highest distinction for organ and piano. She then completed advanced training on the fortepiano with Jesper Christensen and organ with Andrea Marcon and Wolfgang Zerer at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel.

Biesemans has performed as a soloist in Europe , Japan , Canada and the USA . In 2006/2007 she performed the complete organ works by Johann Sebastian Bach in 19 concerts in Zurich . From 2002 to 2006 she was titular organist at the Van Bever organ in the Dominican Church in Brussels , and from 2006 to 2009 at the Maria Krönung Church in Zurich- Witikon . Since May 2010 she has held this position at the Reformed Church in Bühl in Zurich-Wiedikon. She has also been the artistic director of music in the Bühlkirche and the Zurich Hammerklavierfestival since 2010 .

In addition to organ concerts, she gives concerts on the fortepiano and appears both as a soloist and in a chamber music ensemble. As a soloist Els Biesemans u. a. Performed in the Philharmonie Berlin , the Philharmonie Essen , Tonhalle Zurich and the Philharmonique Royal Liège . She guested u. a. at the Bach Festival Montréal , Bach Festival Leipzig , Musikfest Bremen , Festival van Vlanderen , BOZAR Music Brussels, Forum Alte Musik Zürich, Toulouse-les-Orgues and at the Boston Clavichord Society in the USA .

Biesemans made various recordings for French, Belgian and Swiss radio .

Awards

Biesemans has u. a. won the international organ competition in Vilnius and the Arp Schnitger organ competition in Bremen . She received further prizes and a. in the international organ competitions Internationaal Orgelconcours Nijmegen , Internationale Orgelwedstrijd van het Festival van Vlaanderen Bruges , International Organ Competition ' Max Reger and Olivier Messiaen ' in Graz , 5th International Organ Competition Musashino in Tokyo , Concours d'orgue de la ville de Paris , International Bach- Organ competition in Leipzig and Canadian International Organ Competition ( Bach Prize ) in Montréal .

Biesemans plays the organ, fortepiano, clavichord , harpsichord , romantic or modern piano. It is dedicated to historical performance practice and has an organ repertoire that spans literature from the late Middle Ages to the modern age .

Discography

Under the label Genuin classics she recorded the cycle Das Jahr and other piano music by Fanny Hensel and the transcriptions by Franz Liszt to songs by Franz Schubert , Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Frédéric Chopin for the first time on historical fortepiano .
